Back to Basics

Many gamebird breeders and raisers often times are looking for secrets of how to produce birds that would consistently have a very good winning percentage.

I personally believe that the real secret to accomplishing this is by going back to the basics. We must begin with having the best bloodline we can acquire.
For this will be the basis of how our roosters will be performing. If you have a poor performing bloodline, no matter what you do the offsprings would also have a higher percentage of being poor performers. Make sure that your brood stocks have the physical conformation and characteristics of the breed you have selected.

The second most important thing will be proper nourishment or feeding. What we feed them daily from hatch to the day that they compete is very important. The feed they eat should supply all the needed nutrients for them to properly develop, grow, also supply the needed energy and keep them healthy. For me, this is the most important part that should not be sacrificed. You can have the best breeds to begin with, but if they are not nourished properly their full potential will not be realized and they will be weak and more prone to catching diseases.

What ever we give them during the conditioning period should be there to enhance the natural abilities of our roosters and should not be what we are relying on to bring out the best in them.
